I'm Stuart. I started my apprenticeship at British Gas in 2004, and I've been a plumbing and heating engineer ever since. Along the way I've kept adding to it — manufacturer training, fault-finding courses, installation qualifications — rather than coasting on the apprenticeship alone. I set up Thermotec in 2015 because I was fed up with how this trade treats people — vague time slots, one price quoted and another billed, jobs that need redoing three months later.

I don't do the hard sell. If your boiler needs replacing, I'll tell you straight. If a service and a clean will see it through another winter, I'll tell you that instead. Most of my work these days comes from people who used me last time, or their neighbour did.

What I actually do

Boiler repairs, servicing and new installations. General plumbing. Air conditioning. Powerflushing, water softeners, unvented cylinders, underfloor heating. If it's a pipe, a boiler, or something that heats or cools your house, it's probably something I can sort.

How I work

• A proper arrival time — not a six-hour window to sit around in
• One price, agreed before I start — no surprises on the bill
• Fixed once, fixed properly — I carry the parts most jobs need on the van
• Your house left as tidy as I found it
