SMART CONTROLS

Smart controls are becoming more and more at the forefront of energy efficiency in homes. However, not everyone is actually sure of what they are, how they work and what they can do.

Smart controls are systems that are installed alongside boilers to give you extraordinary control over your heating and hot water. Connected wirelessly to the internet, you can control your heating remotely from a smartphone, tablet or another internet-connected device.

Central heating smart controls enable you to take full control over your heating and hot water, whether you are in or out of the home.

The majority of smart controls will allow you to set schedules to suit your work day, holiday time or even just when you’re out shopping. This means that you are not unnecessarily heating your home thus wasting energy and money.

There are 2 main types of smart controls, thermostats and radiator thermostats, these are the most advanced type of heating controls.

Some of the more sophisticated features they can offer include:

  • Simple and easy-to-use time and temperature controls with user-friendly interfaces, making it easier to check and change the on/off periods for heating and hot water.

  • Allowing you to turn the system on or off and change the temperature using your smartphone when you’re not at home.

  • Learning your habits and adjusting controls to match, for example turning up the thermostat in the evening when you’re relaxing, or heating the hot water ready for when you’re most likely to take a shower or bath.

  • Track where you are using your smart device location, known as ‘geo-location’. When you’re returning home from work, the heating system will turn on and heat the house or hot water in time for your return.

  • Other advanced control functions such as load compensation and weather compensation options have many more money-saving and ease-of-use features.
